Relief Staff
File #17-011

Nexus Youth Services is a fully accredited, community based, counselling and resource service for young people ages 14 to 24. NYS is committed to creating opportunities for youth by providing high quality services that are inclusive and responsive to the needs and voices of youth.

Nexus Youth Centre (NYC), a program of Nexus Youth Services, is a dynamic youth drop-in environment, located on the second floor of the Mississauga Central Library. It provides services, resources and opportunities for under-resourced youth to achieve their goals and contribute to a strong community.

As a relief staff working within in our program, you will be supporting the day-to-day operations of the youth centre, including drop in services and programming. NYC is open Monday to Thursday noon – 9:00 pm, and Friday noon – 6:00 p.m. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours on an as-needed basis.

Candidates must possess or be in the process of completing a Child and Youth Worker diploma, or a three-year Community College diploma in a related field, with a minimum of one year experience working with youth and eligibility for membership in the appropriate professional association. Experience working with transitional-aged, marginalized youth in a drop-in or shelter environment is preferred. First Aid and UMAB (Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour) training, although not essential for this position, are considered assets.

Our hourly relief rate is $21.16 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation time (total $22.85).

Selected candidates will be invited to an interview. In addition to the interview, an observation shift at the youth centre is highly recommended to ensure familiarity with the NYC environment and goodness of fit. Should you be selected for an interview you will be asked to bring with you three professional reference letters, along with contact telephone numbers for each reference.

At Nexus Youth Services we value diversity in our workplace, our clientele and our communities. We are actively engaged in building a more diverse workforce and encourage all qualified candidates to apply no later than April 24, 2017.

Please note that all successful candidates must provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector police records check prior to the commencement of employment. A recent (within 6 months) Police Reference Check is required.

Please submit a cover letter and chronological resume, referring to File #17-011, through the careers page of our website.
