Sleep: Why We Need It & What Happens Without It

Tuesday, October 29, 2013

Nexus is warm and welcoming, the second you come into the door everyone is so nice. There is always free food and everyone is talking. It just seems like a good place to be.
Many of us already know that sleep is important. Most people function much better when we get the recommended daily 7-9 hours of sleep, but did you know that sleep is actually critical to our survival?

In the SciShow episode “Sleep: Why We Need It and What Happens Without It”, host Hank explains that humans will die more quickly of sleep deprivation than of starvation.

Lack of sleep can also lead to carelessness, which can dangerous to others; sleepiness causes over 200,000 car accidents each year, killing more people than drunk driving.

So, the next time you’re thinking about pulling an all-nighter to finish an assignment, or working a double shift without a break to rest, think again! Sleep is important!
